Verdict:
There may have been a lengthy mid-season break just past, however it’s once again Kirk Gibbs who stands tall as the class of MX1 this year – even without the arrival of the 2016 KTMs as expected following Coolum. He didn’t have it entirely his own way on Sunday as reigning champion Matt Moss returned to form with the opening moto win, but a hard-fought win in moto two showed that Gibbs has no plans of cruising to this title. Moss could play a role similar to Caleb Ward in the 250 Class, not challenging for the title but very well in the mix for race/round wins from this point on. Luke Styke was once again incredibly strong in the races, but will have to start making Super Pole if he’s to gain as many points in the series as possible, while Dan Reardon’s results don’t reflect his form at MX Central. Adam Monea was improved in moto two after new teammate Dylan Long got the better of him in the first, which will be an intriguing battle to watch over the final four rounds if Long can continue to challenge his more senior teammate. Unfortunately for Coolum winner Lawson Bopping, it was a brutally tough day resulting in a 12th place finish when all was said and done.

Verdict:
We’ve been watching Dylan Wills rise up the order on many occasion this year and Raymond Terrace showed exactly what he’s capable of. Pole position and a memorable first race win despite all kinds of pressure from Caleb Ward signified his arrival on the podium, ended up third overall after a trying second outing. Up front Ward was incredibly quick in moto two especially, sprinting away out front early and simply dominating the country’s best MX2 talent for the overall. Jay Wilson took charge of the red plate in second overall and could very well take control of the series from this point if he can keep up that type of consistency. But Luke Clout won’t make it easy; we expect him to come out increasingly stronger in upcoming rounds and he did have to overcome bike problems in the first moto on the weekend. It was a disastrous round for title threat Taka Katsuya, going down early in the second moto and ending his chances of a good overall. Likewise, Nato Crawford had a round to forget after a 10th in moto one and a DNF with a dropped chain in the second. Others to shine at times were Jed Beaton (third in moto two) and Dean Porter (fifth in the opening moto), but we’ll have more on the unsung performers in this week’s features.
