World champion overcomes mixed challenges at Serres.
Australia’s reigning E3 World Champion Matthew Phillips has endured a mixed weekend in the fourth round of the 2015 Enduro World Championship.
Phillips was a non-finisher in the Super Test on Friday, which meant he started with a 40-second penalty ahead of Saturday’s proceedings.
The factory KTM rider was able to record the fastest E3 time of the day on his way to third overall considering the penalty, which salvaged vital championship points. A consistent Mathis Bellino won ahead of Aigar Leok.
In E2 on Saturday it was Pela Renet the victor from Antione Meo and Alex Salvini, while in E1 Eero Remes took the win from Marc Bourgeois and Christophe Nambotin.
Sunday’s running was again difficult for Phillips, who after battling a bout of food poisoning overnight, soldiered on to finish third in E3 behind Bellino, Leok and Phillips.
In E2 Renet was again the winner ahead of title leader Meo and Salvini. The E1 class belonged to Remes, winning from Nambotin and Danny McCanney.
The 2015 Maxxis FIM Enduro World Championship continues in two weeks with the GP of Italy.
