Wilvo Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Dean Ferris was unable to convert a strong sixth place qualifying performance at the Matterley Basin round of MXGP last weekend, finishing 17th overall for the grand prix.

Despite a strong performance that saw Ferris sixth at the end of Saturday’s qualifying heat, the Wilvo Nestaan rider was unable to find his speed during the two MXGP races.

“It’s been a frustrating GP for me,” Ferris explained. “Saturday was really good, I felt great during my qualifying race and to finish sixth was really good. My speed was right there. It was the first time all season I’d been racing up front so I was feeling confident going into Sunday.”

However Sunday turned out to be a difficult day for Ferris, finishing the opening moto in a promising 13th position before falling to 18th in moto two. That placed him 17th overall for the round.

“I don’t really know why, but I struggled in both motos,” he added. “My speed just wasn’t there, which it was the day before. I was struggling and things just didn’t work out.”

Following the first seven rounds of the world championship, Ferris is now 19th in the MXGP standings.
