Yamaha riders filled the podium at the opening round on Sunday.
Yamaha Motor Australia press release:
Yamaha riders filled the podium at the opening round of the Australian Women’s Motocross championship, ran over the weekend in conjunction with round three of the MX Nationals, at Broadford, Victoria. On a tough, rutted and challenging course, the Women had plenty to contend with as they battled the conditions at the opening round of their championship.
Victoria’s Emma Milesevic won the round with 67 points on the back of her 2-1 results in the two 15 motos. Mounted on a Yamaha YZ250 two-stroke, Emma shot to the front of both races and battled rival Maddy Brown for the race wins. It was Milesevic who stayed calm during, making few mistakes and went on to win the day.
Brown, a fellow Victoria, was second on her YZ250F with her 1-3 finishes. Brown moved into the lead in race one and held it all the way to the finish line but a fall in race two cost her any chance of winning the round as she dropped back to third place in the moto.
Off road ace, Tayla Jones tried her hand at motocross and did a very respectable job. The current points’ leader in the Women’s Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) acquitted herself well and made the final spot on the podium thanks to her 3-2 results.
“It was a pretty tough track to ride,” stated round victor, Emma Milesevic. “It was really hard pack, the ruts were long and deep and I had to ride within myself to ensure I didn’t crash so it was good to get the win.
“A huge thanks to Motorcycling Australia and WEM for including the Women as part of the MX Nationals as it is awesome to ride on a track this level and in front of the motorcycle industry,” Emma ends.
The Australia Women’s Motocross Championship will be ran over two rounds with the final round to be ran in conjunction with round eight of the MX Nationals in Nowra, NSW on August 2.
