DPH Peter Stevens Yamaha has come away from Round 2 of the 2015 MX Nationals at Appin, maintaining their place in the Championship hunt.

Lawson Bopping was the team’s sole rider in the Premier Class, as Cheyne Boyd was unavailable due to prior commitments, and Ross Beaton still recovering from his preseason injuries.

The weekend started off great for Bopping, as he managed to lay down a hot lap during the Practice/Qualifying session. He posted the 2nd quickest time, which secured him a place in the GoPro Superpole for consecutive rounds. During Superpole, Lawson made a small error and finished 3rd, but still picked up some valuable Championship Points.

Moto 1 saw Bopping get a great start out of the gates. He managed to squeeze past the first-turn pile up, to come out in front. Lawson built up a 10-second lead at the front of the pack, up until the 20-minute mark. Unfortunately a few small errors, and suffering from arm pump, Lawson was overtaken late in the race to cross the line in 5th position.

As the gates dropped on Moto 2 Bopping again pushed to the front of the field. He battled amongst the Top 3 for the majority of the Moto, though he unfortunately succumbed to the same arm pump issues late in the race. Lawson ended the Moto in 6th position, and finished the Round in 6th Overall.

“When I came in at the end of both Motos, I wasn’t all that tired, I just wasn’t really fast enough at the finish. But I stayed on my bike which is good, and it gave us something to work off.“ Bopping commented.

“I just need to be able to keep the intensity from the start, and take it all the way through the Moto I think. My One Lap speed is good, but I just need to be able to ride faster, for longer. But it’s a tough field, with all the guys riding great.”

“I’ll get back home and work on a few things and keep chipping away at it.”

DPH Peter Stevens Yamaha Team Principle, Dale Hocking was positive with how the weekend panned out.

“We’re still happy with the result overall, obviously would have liked to be little bit further up the tree. But with us still sitting 4th in the Championship after Round 2, it’s a nice, solid start for our Privateer Team.” Hocking stated.

“Between now and Broadford we will be doing more suspension testing with Lawson next week.”

“We’ll also be focusing a lot more on spending time out on the track with a pit board, obviously pushing harder for the end of those 30-minute Motos, while working on building that fitness up. The Broadford track he doesn’t mind, so we will be looking forward to being on the box at the end of the day.”
