Yamaha Racing ready to take on Appin

The three Yamaha supported race teams fired up and ready to go.

Yamaha Motor Australia press release:

Round two of the MX Nationals hits the long ruts and sticky clay of Appin Raceway, in western Sydney this weekend, with the three Yamaha supported race teams fired up and ready to go for what promises to be a huge weekend of racing.

The round will again feature the three championship classes of MX1 (450cc), MX2 (250cc), MXD (Under 19) as well as the Rookies class with riders under the age of 15 strutting their stuff in front of a big crowd expected at the popular venue. Yamaha teams find themselves well placed after the opening round and look to continue the good form this weekend.

CDR Yamaha – MX1

Kade Mosig made an enterprising start to the championship at Horsham two weeks ago when he nailed down second place in the premier MX1 class. Mosig attributed the good result to a well-planned off season that saw him race in New Zealand as well as spending plenty of time testing and developing his factory YZ450F.

“Round one was just the start we needed and the bike was working well so I have just focused on my riding and fitness as we head for round two,” Mosig states. “Appin can be a tricky track to ride but I have done plenty of laps there in the past and look forward to racing there again this weekend.

Daniel Reardon showed he was on track after a two year break from racing with plenty of speed and determination at the opening round. Reardon qualified in the top five and then posted fifth in the first moto after charging from 19th place from a fall early in the moto. Only some mechanical gremlins kept him from a similar result in race two but with the opening round out the way and the nerves a bit more settled, Reardon feels he will only improve from here.

“I did plenty of riding in the lead up to round one but nothing beats getting behind a start gate at an MX National and getting that race intensity going. I was happy with how I rode and feel it was a positive day for me but I also left Horsham with a clear view of what I needed to improve on and I have worked hard on those elements in the last two weeks,” Reardon ends.

SERCO Yamaha – MX2

The Serco Yamaha team got off to a perfect start at round one with both riders taking a race win and a 1-2 result for the round. Jed Beaton announced that he will be a contender in the MX2 division with the round victory at Horsham and at just 17 years of age his future in motocross is looking bright.

“I hit round one with a goal to be on the podium and riding well and that what I did so I was pretty happy with that and the round win was a little unexpected. But I haven’t slacked off between the rounds and I have kept my routine going but my goal for each round doesn’t change- to be in the top three for each race,” Beaton said.

Luke Clout lives in the Sydney region and is sure to be a crowd favourite as he lines up on his Serco Yamaha YZ250F. Clout finished second at the opening round highlighted with an impressive race win in the opening moto. He also carries the number one plate as the reigning MX2 champion and is determined to stamp some authority on his home patch.

“Appin is my home track and I grew up riding in this area. It will be nice to have a lot of friends and family out to watch me race and support me through the day and I hope to give them a lot to cheer about and keep my good form going from Horsham.”

GYTR Yamaha – MXD

The Yamaha development team had a tough time at the season opener with Mitch Evans breaking his wrist in the opening moto after being the fastest qualifier while Wilson Todd entered round one injured and battling to get through the day. Todd finished fourth on the day despite his injuries but has been able to get some valuable bike time between the rounds and hopes to show some improvement at Appin.

“The day after Horsham I felt pretty sore and sorry, so I had to rest for a few days to recover. I was able to get a couple of rides in over Easter and feel like my health is improving. I’m not 100% but certainly feel better heading into this round than I did at Horsham,” Todd explains.

Evans has been ruled out for round two at Appin with a small fracture to his wrist but is hoping to make a return at round three in Broadford.

“I’m disappointed that I can’t ride this round but I can’t change what’s happened, I just need to make sure I heal up as quickly as possible and get back to full strength so I can return to racing and get stuck into it.”

Yamaha Junior Racing- MXR

Yamaha will again field a strong team for the second round of the Rookies cup this weekend. Hunter Lawrence from Queensland won the opening round in an impressive display of riding while Cody Dyce and Brendon Walther had a tough day and their results aren’t a true indication of the potential.

All three will be back in action this weekend and looking to make it an all Yamaha podium in the MXR class.
