Australians showed their love for off-road motorcycling in the first quarter of 2015, with sales of off-road motorcycles up two percent on first quarter 2014 figures.

The 7715 off-road bike sales represented just over 31 percent of the total motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and scooter market, which totalled 24,505 between January and March 2015.

The 24,505 sales are 1.2 percent less than the sales recorded between January and March 2014.

Honda was the leading volume manufacturer with 5861 units sold. Honda’s market share has risen from 19.3 percent in the first quarter of 2014 to 23.9 percent in the first quarter of 2015.

Honda was followed by Yamaha with 4298 units, Kawasaki with 2771 units and Suzuki with 2325.

“Honda led the volume race in the off-road motorcycle market, selling 28.8 percent of the total sold,” FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said. “Honda was followed by Yamaha with 25.5 percent sales. KTM was third, selling 15.8 percent.”

Top-seller overall was the Honda CRF50F fun bike, while the leading motocross model was Honda’s flagship CRF450R with a 115 percent sales increase over this time last year. Meanwhile, the Yamaha WR450F remains the highest selling enduro model sold.
