JGRMX rider to undergo surgery on foot injury this week.
AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha substitute rider Phil Nicoletti will stand in for the injured Weston Peick when Monster Energy AMA Supercross continues this weekend at Oakland in California.
Peick suffered a broken bone in his foot during the final laps of the Phoenix round of the series on 10 January, where he finished a career-best fourth despite the injury.
After having a screw inserted last week and being advised that attempting to ride at Anaheim 2 would not cause further damage, Peick was determined to attempt to compete.
Unfortunately the screw was not successful in keeping the bones together and on just the first lap of practice the bone broke again, causing Peick to retire from the event.
With NASCAR in its off-season Joe Gibbs was present and had Peick fly back with him to North Carolina, where he will undergo surgery by one of the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame Coaches’ trusted surgeons in Charlotte on Monday.
Peick will return to racing when cleared by the surgeon, with Nicoletti to fill-in during upcoming events alongside Justin Barcia until Peick’s return.
