New combination to compete on Yamahas for 2015 season.
DPH Motorsport has announced that Lawson Bopping and Ross Beaton will form the Yamaha satellite squad’s line-up in the 2015 MX Nationals and Australian Supercross Championship.
Bopping makes his fulltime return to racing after contesting limited MX Nationals rounds last year and finishing third in supercross, while Beaton likewise will return to the professional ranks after a lengthy layoff.
“We’re looking forward to 2015; I think we should have a solid year,” commented team owner Dale Hocking. “Lawson is going to be very competitive, as we will have good bikes for him that should help him do very well.
“I think Ross will be a little bit of a dark horse, who was willing to give up work to come back to train and race full time motocross again. So I think he should do quite well, as he’s comfortable with the bike and happy with the team.
“Yamaha have been fantastic and have supported the team 110 percent, which we are really looking forward to getting the brand out there for them in 2015.”
Bopping said it was an easy decision to sign with DPH Motorsport, marking his return to Yamaha following two years at CDR in 2012 and 2013.
“I spoke with Dale at the end of the supercross series, as he was interested in doing something for next year,” Bopping explained. “He was able to put together a good package, so it’s a really good deal that we’ve got.
“Being back on Yamaha feels sweet. It wasn’t that hard to get use to the bike again as I had a fair bit of time on them back with CDR, so it’s been a pretty easy transition back onto the blue bikes.
“It’s definitely good to have a ride for the whole year this time, as it’s more of a relief than anything. I’ve got good bikes and good support, so I can’t wait.”
Beaton will make his fulltime return for the first time since 2010 when he was runner-up in the MXD title race outdoors. This year will mark his first full attempt at the premier MX1 ranks alongside Bopping.
“It’s really good and it’s like a blessing for me, as I’ve been offered a second opportunity I guess you would say,” Beaton commented. “I was lucky enough that [Dale Hocking] thought of me for the upcoming season and has given me the opportunity to ride again.
“As far as the Yamaha side of things go, it’s definitely my bike of choice, as I feel very comfortable on it. Not only the bike, but also with the people associated with the company. All those guys that I’ve had previous dealings with who have always been fantastic to me, which it’s just great to be able to liaise with such great people.”
Making a number of personal sacrifices to re-join the field for a full time race campaign, Beaton is extremely committed to put the work in needed to be competitive from the second the first gate is dropped.
“I want to make sure that I put in 100 percent and just be competitive. To go out there and make sure I can do Dale, myself and all the sponsors associated with the team proud. I don’t want to be out there just wasting petrol and making up numbers.”
DPH Motorsport begins their assault on 2015, when the MX Nationals kick off at Horsham on Sunday, 29 March.
