American megastar Ryan Villopoto is headed to the MXGP World Championship in 2015, according to reports coming out of Europe this morning.

Kawasaki reportedly announced the news at the annual Intermot trade show at Cologne in Germany overnight, confirming Villopoto will take on Italian eight-time world champion Antonio Cairoli and the GP regulars fulltime next season.

Speculation has been rife that the defending four-time Monster Energy Supercross Champion and four-time Pro Motocross title winner will make the unprecedented switch to Europe in what could be his last as a professional.

European reports state that Kawasaki staff verbally announced Villopoto’s agreement to contest the 2015 MXGP series on the official Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team (KRT).
