Verdict:
Coolum delivered a mixed bag of results on Sunday, but in the end after a difficult day in fifth overall, Matt Moss claimed back-to-back titles by 13 points. Billy Mackenzie broke through for another overall in fine style, his moto three win handing him that result on countback ahead of moto one winner Kirk Gibbs. And how about moto two winner Ben Townley? Out of retirement for a guest appearance and he still has what it takes to win races at the top – and very nearly landed on the podium overall save for his final moto finish. Jacob Wright was again impressive (shouldn’t be a surprise by now!), battling for victory in moto one and then landing on the podium again for the second time in four races at CDR Yamaha. Jay Marmont’s final MX Nationals outing was a reasonable one, eighth overall and sixth in the final moto on a gruelling tough track.

Verdict:
Serco Yamaha’s Luke Clout made it consecutive titles for the YZ250F (different models though of course!) with third overall, while the dominance of 17-year-old Caleb Ward was astounding on Sunday. He picked up his third overall of the season and was untouched in the dark sands of Coolum Pines, boosting him to fifth in the standings. Veteran racer Takeshi Katsuya starred with second overall in just his second national of the year, making for one of the feel good stories of the season. When Luke Arbon crashed out of the final moto that handed Hamish Harwood second in the standings, as the 2013 MXD champion again rose above expectations for an MX2 series podium on debut.
