Aussie's guest appearance with Husqvarna concludes.
Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Racing’s Dean Ferris has ended his guest ride on a high note at Belgium’s 15th round of the 2014 MXGP World Championship, finishing seventh overall in the notorious sands of Lommel.
The Aussie has delivered consistently strong results on board the factory Husqvarna FC 350 during the final four European stops of the season, now scheduled to contest the final three rounds of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross in the 250 Class with Red Bull KTM.
On Sunday at Lommel Ferris improved from ninth in race one to seventh in race two, ending up seventh overall. It’s the type of form that could see him clinch a fulltime return to the GPs with Husqvarna in 2015.
“My starts were strong and in the first race I enjoyed a good battle with Tyla [Rattray] for most of the race,” Ferris reflected. “Race two was better. I was seventh and closing in on the guys fighting for fourth. My laps times were faster and I felt like I could get it, but then things turned crazy with the rain and lightning.
“I had to ditch my goggles – after that it was a matter of survival. Overall these four European races with the team have been a fantastic experience. They’ve been awesome and despite being a replacement rider they gave 100 percent effort to my results. I’m grateful to the opportunity they gave me.”
Countryman Todd Waters is back training in Europe after a lengthy layoff through injury, however his MXGP return date isn’t yet officially confirmed.
