American Honda has announced Justin Barcia will miss the remaining rounds of the 2014 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, undergoing surgery on a chronic ankle injury.

Barcia was forced to sit out last weekend’s Thunder Valley round due to ongoing issues with his ankle, but has now confirmed surgery is the only option for a complete recovery ahead of 2015.

“I felt that I was getting comfortable on the bike and was gaining momentum,” Barcia said. “I’ve consulted with several doctors and they all agree that this surgery is the only way to fix the problem.

“I cannot wait to ride without pain and I will do everything I can to come back with a vengeance. I would like to thank all my sponsors who have been great during this difficult time and I want to assure my fans that I’ll be back better than ever.”

It’s widely believed Barcia will switch to JGR MX Yamaha for the 2015 season when he returns to competition.
