Honda the top-selling brand overall as sales decline in opening quarter.
Yamaha is the top-selling dirt bike brand in Australia during the first quarter of 2014, led by the all-new YZ250F motocross model.
Motorcycle sales were down 2.5 percent in the first quarter, with sales in the off-road motorcycle segment taking a significant 9.4 percent hit compared to sales in the same period of last year.
Road motorcycle sales were strong however, with 3.3 percent more road bikes sold between January and March 2014, than in the same period one year ago. The 11,151 road motorcycle sales made up nearly 44 percent of the total 25,383 new motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and scooter combined sales across Australia.
Releasing the first quarter motorcycle sales figures, FCAI chief executive Tony Weber said Honda was the leading volume manufacturer with 4716 units sold overall. Honda was followed by Yamaha with 4,322 units, Kawasaki with 2882 units and Suzuki with 2174.
“Looking at the off-road motorcycle market, Yamaha was the leading brand, selling 2177 of the 7429 off-road motorcycles sold between January and March,” Weber explained. “Yamaha was followed by Honda with 1484 sales and KTM with 1393.”
