Italian legend Antonio Cairoli has won the MXGP Grand Prix of Brazil at Beto Carrero with a stunning 1-1 performance from Clement Desalle and third place Jeremy Van Horebeek.

In winning the GP Cairoli extended his points lead to 30 points over Gautier Paulin and Van Horebeek who are equal second.

In the opening MXGP moto the final finishing positions were Cairoli by 15 seconds from Van Horebeek, Desalle, while Australian Todd Waters was a solid seventh after charging in the latter stages.

In the second moto it was more of the same as Cairoli dominated his rivals to win the moto and the GP. Paulin led the opening five laps to finally finish second to Cairoli, and third in the moto was Desalle.

Waters this time surged to 10th in his third GP appearance, resulting in seventh overall and eighth in the world championship classification.

Monster Energy CLS Kawasaki rider Arnaud Tonus won the Grand Prix of Brazil in the MX2 class, going 1-2 for the overall victory and in doing so also took over the control of the red plate. Second overall was moto two winner Glenn Coldenhoff and third Max Anstie.

Tonus is now 15 points ahead of former red plate owner Jeffrey Herlings and just two ahead of Coldenhoff. Herlings sat out the weekend after injuring his shoulder in an incident a week prior.

Australian champion Luke Styke raced to a pair of 14th placings in Brazil, crediting him 1th overall in his best showing of the season to date.
