Defending MXGP World Champion Antonio Cairoli proved too good for his competition as he scored 1-1 results and dominated the Grand Prix of Thailand in the MXGP class.

Having struggled somewhat in the opening round last week this was the perfect answer to the Red Bull KTM rider’s rivals.

“I am very happy,” Cairoli said. “The track was hard but I rode good and my style came out. I saved some energy and I look forward to Brazil in two weeks.”

Cairoli won the opening moto from Clement Desalle (Suzuki) and Jeremy Van Horebeek, before winning the second moto in a mirrored podium finish.

Australian Todd Waters rode to seventh overall by virtue of 10th in the opening moto and an outstanding sixth in the final puting for Red Bull Ice One Racing Husqvarna.

In MX2 it was Jeffrey Herlings who won the overall with a clean-sweep of his own. He won moto one over Glenn Coldenhoff (Suzuki) and Arnaud Tonus (Kawasaki), before the podium of moto two featured Herlings, Max Anstie and Husqvarna sensation Romain Febvre.

Overall it was Herlings the winner from Coldenhoff and Anstie.

“I just rode smart,” Herlings said. “I didn’t push too hard because of the heat. I need to save some energy for the second moto.”

After qualifying 18th, Australian champion Luke Styke was forced out of both motos with technical problems on his KEMEYA Yamaha.
