Australian completes first clean-sweep at Losail in Qatar.
Australia’s Meghan Rutledge is celebrating her first Women’s Motocross World Championship double moto sweep in Qatar, dominating the weekend in convincing fashion.
The Bud Racing Kawasaki rider stormed to pole position and then both moto victories, firing the first shot of the 2014 season after finishing runner-up last year.
“When I got the fastest lap time in the qualifying session it gave me more confidence for the weekend after I had been out of racing for so long with my broken ankle,” Rutledge said.
“That first holeshot offered a good opportunity to win the race, but nobody can imagine my feeling when I crossed the finish line. In the second heat Livia [Lancelot] was close at the beginning, but I was determined to win that race also.
“It’s good to be racing on the same program as the MXGP and MX2 classes; it’s great to see them racing and it also means that we have better tracks and organisations.”
The WMX series will take a month break now before resuming at the MXGP of Trentino in Italy on 13 April.
