Two-stroke Lites switch on the cards for McCoy next season

Daniel McCoy is eyeing a switch back to the Pro Lites category for 2014, considering campaigning a 250 two-stroke full time next season.

McCoy, 29, has split his time between the Lites and Open categories over the past decade, now looking to firm up a deal that will see him revert to the Lites.

It’s been a turbulent year for McCoy, who started out as an official CDR Yamaha satellite rider before defecting to Carlton Dry Honda on the eve of the MX Nationals.

McCoy parted ways with Honda mid-season, going on to test with both TM Racing Australia and Craig Anderson’s Berry Sweet/Lucas Oil Yamaha team. He them locked in a supercross-only deal with Motorex KTM to round out the year.

With KTM signing Ford Dale to join Kirk Gibbs next year, McCoy has again been linked to the TM team as he looks toward a two-stroke conversion.

“I’ve always thought two-strokes are good for privateers in the Lites,” McCoy told MotoOnline.com.au. “They’re competitive against factory bikes, but for me the important thing is that they’re super-fun to ride.

“I’ve had my own two-strokes since I rode for Suzuki in 2011 and at certain tracks I’m definitely faster on it compared to a 250F. Right now a two-stroke in the Lites is definitely a realistic option.”

McCoy was unable to confirm that he tested the TM Racing Australia two-stroke in Queensland directly following the SX season.
