Justin Barcia has dismissed claims that his aggressive passes on Team Honda Muscle Milk teammate Trey Canard were too heavy at the Paris-Bercy Supercross in France last weekend.

The American duo went 1-2 overall in an action-packed weekend of racing, where block-passes were a key ingredient in Barcia taking the overall victory.

Barcia went 1-1-2 during the three-night show while Canard went 2-2-1, however both will this week return to the US in good spirits for January’s American Supercross opener at Anaheim.

“The tension all weekend was up there, teammates, block passes…” Barcia told Racer X Online. “Always everyone sees my passes, but he stuck it in on me a few times pretty hard on the weekend, in the back tunnel he got me a couple of times.

“Tension was high, but we’ll leave that here, we’ll go home and hopefully we kick ass in the supercross season.”

The pair discussed the tactics post-race, Barcia adamant that Canard had no problem with his aggression at Bercy.

“[Trey] came over after the race, I said ‘what do you think, too much?’,” Barcia explained. “He said, ‘it was almost too much’. So I said, ‘Perfect’. For me that’s great, you know. I don’t need to ask permission to make a nice block pass on anyone.

“That’s racing and I like the excitement factor. If Trey had gone down it would have been a way different story and I would have felt really bad about that. I knew what I was doing and I made a good pass and it was awesome.”

Canard also later shrugged off any tension between the pair, fully focused on the US season next year.

“Rubbin’s racing, I guess,” he said “I’ve got to learn to protect that inside a little better. I thought it was great.”
