Motorex KTM’s Daniel McCoy is targeting a podium finish to conclude the 2013 Australian Supercross Championship this weekend at Toowoomba in Queensland.
Fresh from wrapping up the Queensland state title last Saturday, McCoy is yet to cement a contract for 2014 as the season comes to a close.
McCoy started this year with a CDR Yamaha satellite deal before switching to Carlton Dry Honda on the eve of the MX Nationals.
Since splitting with Honda mid-season, he tested with TM and Craig Anderson Racing before finally landing a supercross-only deal with Motorex KTM.
With KTM reportedly re-signing Kirk Gibbs and on the verge of announcing Ford Dale for next season, McCoy’s prospects remain uncertain.
“I’ve had two fun weekends with good results and I want to end 2013 with a bang,” McCoy told MotoOnline.com.au. “I haven’t got any deals lined up at all for 2014, although I am trying to line something up overseas early next year.
“So, yeah, I want to go out on a high and at least get a podium. I haven’t had one all year, which is pretty ridiculous!”
If McCoy can reach the podium on Saturday it will be a significant step toward securing a top five position in the standings.
“In the points chase I’m only four points off [Weston] Peick in fourth place, but I’m not sure if he’s coming back for this round,” he added. “But then I’ve got Jay Marmont only two points behind me, so I’ve got my hands full.”
