Victory in the inaugural Women’s Australian Supercross Championship will go someway toward not being able to defend her motocross title in 2013, according to dirt bike golden girl Meghan Rutledge.

The 18-year-old won both the 2011 and 2012 women’s national championships, however recent cancellation of the event’s 2013 running has denied her the opportunity to defend the number one plate this year (click here for details).

Instead, the addition of women’s racing to Phillip Island’s supercross event alongside the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix was a neat alternative for Rutledge to wrap up and add to her collection of national championships.

Rutledge was the standout of the six-rider women’s field at Phillip Island, beating internationals Jessica Patterson and Sayaka Kaneshiro in convincing fashion. She won all three rounds on her way to the title.

“When they cancelled the Women’s motocross [championship], I was disappointed to not have the opportunity to race for my third consecutive title,” Rutledge said.

“So to come out now and win this supercross title is awesome. I’d like to give a big thanks to Kawasaki, Moss Institute, Fox, Powerplus fuels, Eve, Troy Campbell and his family from Easternwell and Bud Racing.”

Rutledge is now preparing to head to Geneva to defend her Queen of Geneva SX title in December.
