A separated shoulder sustained at the Mount Gambier round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championship will rule Tunetech Racing KTM’s Kale Makeham out of the season’s second half.
Makeham crashed on the opening lap of the night’s first heat race in South Australia, injuring his right shoulder in the incident.
After just recently announcing his plans to remain with the Tunetech team and securing additional factory KTM support for 2014 (click here for details), it’s a frustrating injury for this year’s MX2 outdoor runner-up.
“It’s pretty devastating to go out with an injury,” Makeham told MotoOnline.com.au. “Every time I get on my bike I love it and racing is what I live for, so it’s never fun to have that taken away.
“Luckily though it’s towards the end of the year and it’s looking like it won’t be anything too major. My trainer Tim Cole has organized MRI scans and a shoulder specialist for me to see in Melbourne this Wednesday, I should know a lot more after that and we’ll just take it one step at a time and get it fixed properly.
“Just really bummed out that I’ve let down my sponsors and every body that’s behind me, but all in all we’ve had a good year and 2014 will be even better so we are all staying positive and looking forward to getting back out there racing.”
Prior to his injury, 2013 Under 19s champion Makeham had qualified fourth in his second SX-Lites appearance.
