Australia’s Chad Reed is chipping away at TwoTwo Motorsports’ plans for 2014 in the US, confident the team will forge a competitive combination ahead of January’s American Supercross season opener in Anaheim.

TwoTwo Motorsports is poised to again work closely with Mitch Payton’s Pro Circuit brand in 2014, Reed has explained in an interview with American website Racer X Online.

Reed has been swiftly working to put a program in place for next year, near certain to increase TwoTwo’s involvement with Pro Circuit for the new year.

Reed rode a Honda CRF450R largely developed with Pro Circuit during 2011 before gaining factory Honda support, a relationship that has remained in tact since TwoTwo’s formation.

Despite not yet announcing a manufacturer deal – Kawasaki or KTM are currently the leading candidates – Reed is positive that TwoTwo will again feature a large Pro Circuit presence in 2014.

“Mitch has always been a good guy,” Reed told Racer X. “I feel like for me I like that he’s straight up. When he thinks something he lets you know. I can deal with that. If someone tells me no I’m good with a no if they explain why and it makes sense.

“He’s never taken advantage of me, always given me his all, whether it be him or Bones [Jim Bacon] or any of his staff. He’s always made all that stuff available to us. I’m hugely appreciative of him and what he brings to the table for us.

“Who knows? I’m 99.9 percent sure that we’ll be PC, and what level and what bike it’ll be hopefully here in the next few weeks we can announce that.”

Part of the puzzle to be put in place for next year is a potential teammate for Reed, who has operated TwoTwo as a single-rider outfit since its inception three years ago.

“Probably more reason there’s not an announcement is because of the second potential rider,” Reed added. “So, we’ll see. It’ll be awesome. That’s the goal. The biggest thing that I fight as a team owner is the fact that I’m the racer, and everybody looks at this as just racing. It’s really not.

“There is no company as unique as TwoTwo Motorsports. We the team have big goals and the future is to have two solid guys, me being one for at least the next year and then try to have two solid guys always. We have great sponsors. Like I said, I feel like I’m a signature away of being able to really do it the way you want to do it.

“But right now I’m really happy with the way things are looking with sponsorship and from a budgeting point of view. We’re looking to grow. We’re trying to work some things out. Hopefully by Friday I’ll know really where I stand as far as a potential second rider.

“We’ve got to get moving. I’m putting some pressure on and trying to get this thing done, or if it doesn’t get done then we move on and be a single-rider team again.”
