Three-time world champion David Knight has confirmed a switch from Honda to Sherco machinery from late 2013 onwards.
The accomplished all-rounder from the Isle of Man has enjoyed success across a variety of disciplines including World Endurance and GNCC competition, and is looking forward to the new association with what remains a relatively young brand in the marketplace.
Knight said he was pleased with the initial tests of the new Sherco machinery after comparing the bikes to those he currently campaigns.
“It’s incredible, when I tried the bike the first time, I made comparisons with my bike from this year,” explained Knight. “When we look at the times I don’t believe them.
“It’s important to have that good feeling with the bike immediately and with this bike it has become very good. I ride the bike a lot with the front wheel and with this chassis is seems perfect for turning.
“You have to have a lot of confidence in the front and with the Sherco and I have that with this bike, I think it can be the perfect bike.”
Knight has plans to contest the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship and selected extreme events, and is confident that Sherco can provide him the bikes needed to be successful.
“For next year we’ll make the indoor world championship, for this I think I’m going to use the 300 four-stroke,” he explained. “The track with the 450 is quite difficult, the bikes have a lot of power and are more heavy, so I think we have to try some more, but at the moment, I like the 300 four-stroke.
“It has very good power for a small bike, and its very light and I think we can do some damage with this bike. With the big extreme race, I’ll use the 300 two-stroke. It depends on the race, some is more suited to the two-stroke, some maybe with the four.”
Knight will officially make the switch to Sherco in November where he will contest the Liverpool World Indoor Enduro in the United Kingdom.
