Kade Mosig has described the Australian Supercross Championship (ASX) lifeline extended by Craig Dack’s factory Yamaha squad as the realisation of a long-held dream.
2013 has been a tumultuous year for Mosig, who was blisteringly-quick throughout the Monster Energy MX Nationals but taken out of title contention through various injuries.
When Mosig’s Zero Seven Motorsports outfit withdrew from the championship on the eve of Swan Hill, Mosig was left with the prospect of being without a ride for the fast-approaching ASX season.
“I had actually decided to sit out the last few rounds of Motocross, and then the team actually ended up folding, so I was left with nothing,” Mosig told MotoOnline.com.au. “I was getting a bit worried there at one stage.”
Mosig reached out to Dack, initially to register his interest, and was surprised when the highly-regarded team owner returned with an opportunity to race the new YZ450F.
“Craig didn’t have any options at the time, but ended up calling me back,” continued Mosig. “The next thing I knew I was in there for a meeting, and then in a short space of time I was setting up my bike!
“I was blown away. It didn’t really sink in until the weekend at Coolum, where I got to spend some time at the truck with the CDR shirt on.
“It’s been a dream of mine from a young age to race for CDR, and to get this opportunity with such a well-structured and prestigious team is just awesome. I can’t wait to do the team proud, and show what I can do on the 450.”
While the turnaround between championships is tight and Mosig’s time on the bike has been limited, he is confident he will make the transition from 250cc to 450cc with relative ease.
“I haven’t raced a 450 for a few years now, but done lots of local races on them and have plenty of experience riding them,” he continued.
“I really like the bike, I’ve had a full week of riding on it to get myself comfortable, but it’s definitely awesome to ride. I’m heading back to Melbourne now to do some more testing and get myself fully-prepared for the challenge.”
And while Mosig says no specific goals have been set for his Pro Open title tilt with CDR, he believes his own internal motivation is fuel enough.
“It’s more my own self-expectation that drives me – I go there to win every race,” he said. “I want to finish every final, and be scoring good points, which is very important given the length of the season.
“Somewhere around the top five would be a good benchmark goal, and I’m also aiming to stay fully fit for the whole season.”
Mosig will make his debut ride with CDR Yamaha at the opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship at Darwin’s Hidden Valley on 14-15 September.
