CDR Yamaha’s Craig Dack has pinpointed runaway MX Nationals MX2 series leader Luke Styke as one of the iconic team’s potential MX1 candidates in 2014.

A longtime Yamaha runner, Styke makes no secret that his sights are set on Europe and the FIM Motocross World Championship next season, however if that doesn’t eventuate it’s a near certainty that Dack will offer him a seat on one of CDR’s YZ450Fs.

“I’d love to try do something with Stykesy,” Dack told MotoOnline.com.au. “I was going to start having a chat with him just recently, but I know his goal is to get to Europe and I don’t want to get in the way of that.

“But if it gets to the point where he’s not going to go to Europe, I’d love to talk to him.”

Styke has amassed a 91-point lead so far in the 2013 MX2 Australian Motocross Championship, winning six of seven rounds contested to date in dominant fashion.

A former Under 19s champion with the GYTR Yamaha squad, Styke has proven a revelation since joining Serco Yamaha midway through 2011 following a difficult initial transition into MX2.

“I just like his determination, plus there’s a bit of an unwritten rule in Yamaha’s program that we’d like to see riders progress through our teams,” Dack added. “Scott Bishop runs a really nice Under 19s team, then they can move onto Serco and when they’re done there, hopefully we can take someone to an open championship at CDR.

“From that point of view it would be rewarding for Yamaha to win a championship with somebody like Styke, who has come through the program. I really think he could be the first guy to do it.”

CDR Yamaha is currently fielding Billy Mackenzie and Lawson Bopping in Yamaha’s factory MX1 program.
