Tye Simmonds is not ruling out a return to racing next year following yesterday’s announcement that he has retired from professional Motocross, effective immediately.
Simmonds, 21, had been campaigning the Monster Energy MX Nationals with Craig Anderson’s Berry Sweet/Lucas Oil Yamaha team, however confirmed yesterday that he’ll sit out the remainder of 2013 at least.

But in an exclusive interview with MotoOnline.com.au posted this morning (click here to view), Simmonds has hinted a potential Supercross comeback as soon as 2014 following a scheduled extended break from the sport.
“I originally planned to take some time off at the end of the year and sit the Motocross out [next year], then return for the 2014 Supercross season,” he explained. “And that’s still the plan, I guess – I’ve just brought it all forward a bit.
“I enjoy Supercross more than Motocross, so there’s a chance I’ll return at the end of next year. If I still don’t want to ride, I won’t return and screw a team around. If I come back next year I’ll be ready to go and I won’t be riding around for the sake of riding.
“For the moment it’s an extended break and it’s too early to say whether I’m done for good.”
At the point of his announcement, Simmonds current sits ninth following six of 10 rounds. He finished eighth in last year’s Australian Supercross Championship.
