Thompson and Politelli victors at CMRC round six, Metcalfe third in MX1

Cole Thompson earned his first premier class win of the 2013 Monster Energy Canadian Motocross Championships season at Sand Del Lee’s round six.
The Canadian KTM rider used a strong 1-2 moto scorecard to take home the MX1 win ahead of Jeremy Medaglia who finished in the runner-up spot with 2-5 scores on his Yamaha.
Rounding out the podium was Australia’s Brett Metcalfe, the Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki rider suffered a sub-par 12th place finish in moto one before backing it up with a win in moto two.
Metcalfe’s third overall at Sand Del Lee breaks his impressive streak of four overall premier class wins over the previous four events.
Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry was fourth overall with a 3-7 moto scorecard followed by late series entrant Kyle Keast who used a 6-8 score to land himself a top five spot.
Metcalfe continues to lead the MX1 championship chase with a 60-point lead over Kiniry in second followed by Tyler Medaglia, Jeremy Medaglia and Teddy Maier to round out the top five spots.
In the MX2 class it was Metcalfe’s Monster Energy Leading Edge Kawasaki teammate Austin Politelli who took top honours at Sand Del Lee.
Politelli took the overall win with a 6-1 moto score ahead of RTR Performance Honda’s Topher Ingalls who used a consistent 3-3 score to secure the runner-up position.
Third overall in MX2 went to Kawasaki’s Josh Clark who finished the day with a 2-4 result, Shawn Maffenbeier was fourth overall followed by Blake Savage in fifth.
Politelli leads the MX2 championship chase by 34 points over second place Ingalls, followed by Josh Clark, Brad Nauditt and Kaven Benoit to round out the top five.
The 2013 Monster Energy Canadian Motocross Championships head to Deschambault for round seven of nine on 28 July.
