Since the announcement of the old-school circuit re-joining the Grand Prix calendar there have been many expectations generated around renovated track located near Milan in the north of Italy.
On 16 June riders will line up to tackle the circuit from the MX1, MX2, MX3 and WMX classes. Australia’s Dean Ferris will contest the MX2 class while fellow Aussie Meghan Rutledge will shoot for the top in WMX.
In the premier MX1 category Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli leads the points chase into Italy as he shoots for his 60th GP victory at his home event.
Following Cairoli is Kawasaki Racing Team’s Gautier Paulin, the Frenchman trails Cairoli by 56 points with Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle rounding out the top three.
With Steven Frossard unable to race this weekend, Australia’s Billy Mackenzie will join the Monster Energy Yamaha team in the MX1 class to race the Italian GP.
America’s Jeff Alessi will also take part in the Maggiora round this weekend as a wildcard with JK SKS Gebben Racing in the MX1 class.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings continues to dominate the MX2 class as the series heads to Italy, the Dutchman holds a strong 110-point lead over second place in points.
Herlings’ teammate Jordi Tixier holds that second place position followed by fellow KTM rider Jose Butron who rounds out the top three.
Australia’s Dean Ferris currently sits sixth overall in the MX2 standings aboard his Monster Energy Yamaha with eight rounds remaining.
US rider Michael Leib will be back this weekend racing in the MX2 class with Honda Gariboldi. Leib btained his maiden MX2 podium last year in Fermo, so it is special for him to be back to the series in Italy.
In the WMX championship Chiara Fontanesi holds the series lead ahead of Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Rutledge, rounding out the top three is Natalie Kane.
