Rockstar Energy Racing’s Nico Izzi has been forced to bow out of the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing.

Izzi re-injured his recently repaired ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) after catching his foot in a fast turn during qualifying at High Point’s round four of the 12-round series.

The 250 Class contender went in for MRI scans this week which confirmed that his ACL has been torn and he will be sitting on the sidelines for the remainder of the year.

This is a tough blow for Izzi who’s career has been riddled with injury, most recently making a hard-fought comeback to racing after suffering this exact same injury.

Izzi sat 17th overall in the 250 Class championship standings before his season-ending injury occurred over the weekend in Pennsylvania.

Rockstar Energy Racing are yet to announce plans for a fill-in rider to replace Izzi for the remainder of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
