Antonio Cairoli scored his 59th career MX1 victory at the French Grand Prix in Ernee for round eight of the 2013 FIM Motocross World Championship.

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider took the early lead during moto one, but made a mistake at the mid-point allowing Kawasaki Racing Team’s Gautier Paulin to make the move for the lead spot.
The Frenchman dealt with pressure from the defending champion throughout the moto, holding on for the victory in front of his home crowd.
Behind the lead duo it was Rockstar Energy World’s Clement Desalle, fresh back from his US outdoor appearance, who scored third in moto one.
Moto two saw Cairoli jump to the lead spot and hold it for the remainder of the race, behind him it was Desalle and CLS Kawasaki Monster Energy Pro Circuit’s Tommy Searle who made up the top three.
Moto one winner Paulin found himself back in the pack and was unable to find his way to the lead, Paulin was forced to settle for a fourth place spot.
Overall it was Cairoli with the win with a 2-1 moto score, followed by Paulin in second with his 1-4 score and Desalle in third with a 3-2 score. Searle and Jeremy van Horebeek rounded out the top five.
Cairoli continues to lead the MX1 championship standings by 50 points over Paulin in second followed by Desalle in third.
In the MX2 category it was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings who reigned supreme while riding injured following a scary qualifying crash.
The Dutch rider scored himself two solid starts and made his way to the front of the field to earn himself his eighth-straight overall win of the season with a 1-1 sweep.
Second overall in the MX2 class went to Rockstar Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Dylan Ferrandis. The Frenchman used a 2-2 moto scorecard to earn the runner-up spot at his home race.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s Christophe Charlier rounded out the podium at Ernee with his 9-3 moto scorecard, this was his maiden podium finish of the season.
Australia’s Dean Ferris finished 13th overall after qualifying first in the MX2 class for the event. The Monster Energy Yamaha rider currently sits sixth overall in points.
Herlings leads the MX2 championship chase with a 110-point lead over Jordi Tixier in second followed by Jose Butron in third.
The FIM Motocross World Championship will head to Maggiora in Italy for round nine of the series next weekend.
