Josh Cachia’s confidence level has been boosted after stamping his authority over the MX2 field in moto two at Wonthaggi’s third round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals.

The Carlton Dry Honda Racing rider regrouped after going down early in moto one to put on a dominant performance in moto two – taking the win ahead of current series leader Luke Styke and round two winner Luke Clout.

Despite his moto one troubles, the 21-year-old was able to put together a 9-1 moto scorecard to take fourth overall on the day and restore confidence in himself as the series heads into its fourth round.

“In the first race I didn’t get the best start,” said Cachia. “I pushed it too hard into the corner and went down with a few others.

“It was a rookie mistake and unfortunately when I picked my bike up I didn’t have a clutch adjuster so it was hard going, but I got back up to ninth.”

Currently carrying a carrying a niggling nerve injury in his wrist, the Victorian remains positive after taking such a convincing win over the stacked field of MX2 competitors.

“I got a good start in the second moto and pretty much led from start to finish which really felt good,” he added. “To stamp my authority on something like that lets me know that I can still do it, even when I am injured.

“I finished fourth for the day and missed the podium by a point, but I can’t complain after going down in the first race.

“I got some good points today and as a result I have moved up to fifth in the championship standings.”

Cachia currently sits 57 points behind series leader Styke with seven rounds of racing remaining on the 2013 schedule.
