Bulgaria played host to the fifth round of the 2013 FIM Motocross World Championship at Sevlievo over the weekend, where Kawasaki Racing Team’s Gautier Paulin claimed his first overall MX1 victory of the season.

Paulin, last year’s Sevlievo MX1 winner, dominated qualifying and looked on-point throughout the event. The French rider took the win in moto one, and scored a second place moto two finish to earn himself the overall for the day.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli found himself mid-pack during moto one, pushing his way through to field to a fourth place finish. The defending MX1 champion bounced back in moto two, taking the race win and using his 4-1 score for second overall.

Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle was back on the podium this weekend after finishing third in both motos. After two solid starts Desalle had to battle with his teammate Kevin Strijbos to earn his podium spot.

Rounding out the top five overall was Strijbos in fourth with his 2-4 moto scores and Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jeremy Van Horebeek in fifth with his 7-6 moto scorecard.

Cairolo continues to lead the MX1 overall standings after five rounds, holding a 40-point lead over Paulin and a 46-point lead over Rockstar Energy Suzuki World’s Clement Desalle in third.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings continued his MX2 class dominance in Bulgaria, his competition unable to put a stop to his perfect season to date on the Sivlievo circuit.

Herlings dominated both motos on the day, finishing up his moto two performance 40-seconds ahead of runner-up rider and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Jordi Tixier.

Tixier was able to lead six laps of the first moto, before succumbing to Herlings’ pure speed. The Frenchman earned himself a second overall finish with two solid second place spots in both motos.

Third overall on the day was CLS Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider Alessandro Lupino. He used his 8-3 moto scorecard to land himself his first-ever MX2 podium of his career.

Australia’s Dean Ferris was eighth overall in Bulgaria aboard his Monster Energy Yamaha. Ferris used a 10-6 scorecard to finish inside the top 10 after returning to action recently after his mid-season collarbone injury.

Herlings leads the MX2 standings on a perfect 250 points with Tixier 65 points behind him in second while Glenn Coldenhoff sits in third a further 28 points back from Tixier.

The series will now take a weekend off before heading to Agueda on 4-5 May for the sixth round of the season.
