The 2013 Terex Australian Supercross Championship is scheduled to open with a double-header event at Hidden Valley Raceway alongside the Australian Superbike event on 14-15 September, MotoOnline.com.au can reveal.

International Entertainment Group managing director Yarrive Konsky confirmed the news this week that Darwin’s first event of the season will include rounds one and two of the series.

Konsky flew direct to Darwin following last weekend’s MX Nationals season opener, further establishing the plan for the event, which is heavily supported by the government through NT Major Events.

According to Konsky, the Darwin circuit will be the largest in the series’ history, with NT Major Events supplying 20,000 cubes of dirt to construct the Supercross facility.

It’s also anticipated that the MotoGP event at Phillip Island will also become a two-round weekend on the schedule upon request of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation. Last season saw the Under 19s and Junior categories run during Sunday’s proceedings.

With a pair of double-headers almost certain to start the season, two further events will complete the calendar, which will increase to six rounds in total for 2013. South Australia is in line to host the penultimate round, while the finale location remains TBA.

Stay tuned for more when we have it.
