Following his thrilling 450SX victory in Minneapolis over the weekend, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey plans to maintain pressure on series leader Ryan Villopoto as the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross, an FIM World Championship, winds down.

Following a string of runner-up finishes, Dungey pulled the trigger at last weekend’s round and earned his second main event win of the season with just three rounds of racing remaining.

The former Supercross champion now sits 21 points behind Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Villopoto in the title chase and admits that it is vital to keep the pressure on.

“It’s definitely important that we [keep pressuring] and take it one race at a time,” Dungey said. “We’ve got some catching up to do for sure.”

Dungey is aware that Villopoto, the defending 450SX champion, can deal with the pressure of a title chase. But in this sport anything can happen and the Minnesota native will be there to capitalise on any mistakes made.

“Villopoto is a strong rider and he knows how to handle the pressure, but we need to do everything we can at this point and keep the pressure on. Anything can happen. It’s not over until it’s over. I’m just going to keep doing that.”

The Monster Energy Supercross series will makes its way from Dungey’s home race in Minnesota, to Villopoto’s home race in Seattle this weekend for round 15 of the series.
