Carlton Dry Honda Racing’s Ford Dale is looking forward to the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals season with the recently retired Ben Townley right there in his corner throughout the series.
Following his breakthrough 2012 season where he clinched his maiden MX2 Motocross title, Dale will enter his rookie season in the premier MX1 class this weekend at the season opener in Raymond Terrace, New South Wales.
With a highly competitive field this season, Townley’s guidance will be invaluable for the up and coming star as he prepares to take on the best riders Australia has to offer.
“It’s unreal, Ben and I have a really close relationship so it’s awesome,” said Dale. “He’s got a lot of experience and a wealth of knowledge in racing.
“He’s raced all over the world so it’s great having him in my corner, especially for learning – I learn a lot. He can sort of get into my head a little bit and make sure I make the right steps.
“It’s not really my speed, it’s more my consistency, I think that’s the biggest thing I pick up. Along with a few little pointers here and there that will add to my speed.”
Dale recently returned from a stay in New Zealand with Townley where they worked on ensuring a consistent program, and Dale plans to make these valuable trips as regular as possible during the season.
“Mostly just getting everything right and making no mistakes is what he’s been working on with me a lot,” he added. “We’re going to keep doing that throughout the season and I’ll keep heading back to New Zealand when I can and we’ll go from there.”
Dale will kick off his rookie MX1 campaign this weekend on 14 April alongside Dan McCoy after recently being signed as a replacement for the retired Townley.
