Serco Yamaha’s Luke Styke is confident in his pre-season form as the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals loom near, putting in multiple dominant performances over past weeks.
Styke recently took out the Canberra East Coast MX round aboard his YZ450F practice bike, before heading to Toowoomba for the Sunshine State Motocross season opener where he scored wins in both the Pro Open and Pro Lites classes.
Following his season ending supercross injury at the end of last year, Styke knuckled down and put together a solid training program for 2013 which has certainly been successful for him to date.
“I came off an injury from supercross and we knuckled down and set a program up,” said Styke. “We’ve really stuck to the plan and haven’t changed too much from last year.
“We’re just trying to stay in a good routine, don’t get any bad habits and work a little bit on the bike. The pre-season and preparations are going well, we’re only three weeks out now and everything’s happy days.”
After coming so close to clinching the 2012 MX2 motocross title, Styke hopes to wrap up the 2013 MX2 title so he can focus on his desire to head overseas and tackle the world motocross scene in the MX2 class.
“I want to win and then go overseas next year, that’s my plan,” he explained. “I don’t really want to go up to the 450 class in Australia, I just want to go overseas and give it a good run there while I’m at my peak.
“Europe is where I want to be and that’s definitely something I want to start chasing up once I have the results down on paper here in Australia.”
Styke will kick off his 2013 MX2 championship campaign on 14 April as the Monster Energy MX Nationals kick off at Raymond Terrace in New South Wales.
