After experiencing a dream start to his 2013 Monster Energy Supercross season, Rockstar Energy Racing’s Davi Millsaps is looking to regroup and get back after the red plate.
Millsaps held that points leading 450SX red plate for 10 rounds before he injured he knee practicing and eventually handed it over to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto at Daytona.
But Millsaps’ recent performance at last weekend’s Indianapolis round showed that he is regrouping and on the mend, holding a podium position until the final lap of the main event.
“It’s definitely better than the last two weekends but still not where I need to be, and still not where I should be,” Millsaps told Racer X. “I started out front and rode tight and just kind of went backwards.
“But go home and regroup and refocus and just go into it like we did the beginning of the season. I don’t need to work harder, I just need to refocus, I think.”
Millsaps’ feels that his knee is strong again and he will now return to his regular training program in a bid to regain the red plate with just six rounds remaining.
“The good thing is I got a good start again, but I need to get back after it with my riding,” he added. “Since my knee feels good now I’ll get back on my program and we should be good. There’s six rounds left and I’m going to go back and do the best I can to get it back.”
Millsaps now trails 450SX series leader Villopoto by nine points heading into Toronto’s round 12 this weekend in Canada.
