Jake Moss is feeling good about his brand switch for 2013, with the Campbell Mining privateer picking up support from Suzuki after riding Honda’s previously.
Moss will receive his bikes directly from Suzuki, while Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s team manager Jay Foreman will look after his suspension throughout the year.
With past racing experience aboard Suzuki’s, the transition has been a smooth one for Moss – already gelling with the bike and finding comfortable settings.
Moss will now go full steam ahead with his training program which includes the help of his father at the Moss Institute and Dan Reardon at Alteregoelite based in Queensland.
“The official team name is Campbell Mining Suzuki,” said Moss. Suzuki give me the bikes, Motul Pirelli Suzuki’s Jay Foreman does my RG3 suspension and that’s about it – we do everything else.
“I definitely feel comfortable, I gelled with it straight away. I did a couple days of testing and I’m pretty much loving it now.”
Moss contested Toowoomba’s opening round of the Sunshine State Motocross series aboard both his RM-Z450 and a borrowed 250 four-stroke to gain more vital seat time as he works to overcome his pre-season nerves.
“I did the Sunny State in Toowoomba last weekend and I think I was maybe a little bit too nervous and I didn’t know what to think before the races,” Moss explained.
“I raced both classes and my first two races were not that great, I got bad starts and had to make my way up. The second ones on both bikes I still didn’t get good starts.
“I charged through and should have won the 450 race, but I crashed twice then still caught back up and nearly won. I know I’ve got the speed, so I just need to get those jitters out of the way and keep moving forward.”
With his twin brother Matt on the Motul Pirelli Suzuki factory squad for 2013, Moss feels he can benefit from his brothers knowledge in some areas to improve his own program.
“Myself and Matt definitely have different riding styles, so with suspension I run my stuff a lot stiffer than Matt – so we’re a little bit different here and there,” he added.
“But tyres and choice of track, he knows what works good because I’ve changed to Pirelli this year, so that’s definitely an advantage knowing which tyres to run where and stuff.”
Moss will reveal his all-new program at Raymond Terrace’s Monster Energy MX Nationals season opener, where he will be running Alpinestars gear, Motorex oils, EK Chains, KustomMX graphics and Pirelli tyres to name a few.
