Cody Cooper has extended his MX1 points lead after scoring yet another round win aboard his MotoCity Belray Suzuki at Patetonga's round two of the 2013 New Zealand Motocross Championships.
Cody Cooper has extended his MX1 points lead after scoring yet another round win aboard his MotoCity Belray Suzuki at Patetonga’s round two of the 2013 New Zealand Motocross Championships.
Cooper continued his winning form after taking victory at round one, the New Zealand native scoring a near perfect 1-1-2 moto scorecard on the day.
Behind Cooper it was Motorex KTM Racing’s Todd Waters who took the runner-up spot, battling with his former teammate Cooper throughout the day.
Taking third place on the day was CDR Yamaha’s newest recruit Billy Mackenzie. The Scottish rider was consistent throughout the event, finishing off the day with a win in the final moto of the day.
Cooper now leads the MX1 championship by 20 points over Mackenzie, while Waters sits 30 points behind Cooper in third place overall.
In the MX2 class it was Ethan Martens who took home the win at Patetonga, using a strong and consistent 3-2-1 moto scorecard to clinch his first win of the series.
In second position it was round one winner Scott Columb, the Kiwi rode his JCR Yamaha to the runner-up spot with a pair of fourth place finishes and one moto win.
Using his 7-3-2 moto scorecard it was Brock Winston who finished third on the day and rounding out the MX2 podium at Patetonga.
Columb continues to lead the MX2 class aboard his JCR Yamaha on 133 points while Winston sits in second 16 points back, with Rhys Carter in third another 15 points behind the runner-up spot.
The 2013 New Zealand Motocross Championships will now head to the Pukekohe Motorcycle Club for round three of the series on 10 March.
