In this edition of Rewind we take a look back at the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals series launch.
As the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals series looms near, we are just days away from the official series launch at Raymond Terrace in New South Wales on Wednesday 27 February. In this edition of Rewind we take a look back at last year’s event and reflect on some key features and changes within the series.
The 2012 series launch marked the first year of the Monster Energy and Williams Event Management (WEM) partnership, with Monster Energy coming onboard there was plenty of hype and excitement based around brand that already achieved great success with the American supercross series.
The event was set to take place at Appin’s Macarthur District Motorcycle Club, before a large amount of rain turned the Bellbird circuit into a swamp. This forced WEM to transfer the event to Monster Energy headquarters in Melbourne, although there would be no riding taking place, it served as a unique opportunity for the Monster brand to shine on debut.
Last year WEM were also introducing their all-new unique shortened formats to the outdoor series for the first time, these saw a mixed reception within the field. For 2013, these formats have now obviously been removed and the series will return to the traditional two 30-minute moto format – one major change compared to the previous season.
The 2012 pre-season was filled with hype about international contenders and a stacked MX1 field, one of these riders was Carlton Dry Honda’s British import Brad Anderson. He was on hand during the press conference alongside Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jay Marmont. Fast-forward one year later and Anderson is no longer part of the series and now resides back home in Britain.
One year later, heading into the second year of WEM and Monster Energy’s partnership, the series is looking stronger than ever with a seriously stacked line up of riders in both the MX1 and MX2 classes. Weather permitting, the 2013 series launch will be a completely different event, and MotoOnline.com.au will be there once again capturing all of the action.
