Williams Event Management (WEM) managing director Kevin Williams is targeting a record year for the Monster Energy MX Nationals, two months out from Raymond Terrace’s season opener on 14 April.
With WEM last year focusing on the Australian Motocross Championship’s promotion without any role in the Australian Supercross series, the extended preparation period has the MX Nationals shaping up for a bumper 2013 campaign.
According to Williams, the series is on target to exceed the record season experienced last year, with the premier 450cc MX1 category featuring as a wide-open chase for the championship.
Across the board, new champions will be crowned in the MX1, MX2 and MXD categories. Previously, an increased support schedule had also been announced for the new season (click here for more).
The series will also return to traditional two-moto formats (click here for more) and introduce a new MX1 Super Pole session (click here for more) this year. Combined, the series will evolve into a sleek new structure during 2013.
“Right now, two months out, our preparation is the best it’s ever been, purely focused on motocross following Coolum’s final last year,” Williams told MotoOnline.com.au.
“We’re certainly in good condition and this pre-season has been really exciting. Everywhere I go, everybody is already saying ‘what’s your top five pick?, what are your predictions? etc’.
“When you look at the top teams in the MX1 class, every one of them have riders capable of winning motos and all have at least one rider capable of winning the championship.
“You throw on top of that, some of these privateer teams like Campbell Mining and Anderson Racing, plus other teams, it’s probably in our 17 years the most depth we’ve seen in MX1 and a lot of excitement also in MX2 and MXD. The momentum is already building to exceed what was a record year in 2012.”
WEM will host the official season launch at Raymond Terrace later this month on 27 February, with Williams excited to announced further progress in the series’ development.
“As we have every year, we are looking to expand and improve,” he continued. “Last year we added the new live timing and now we are really looking forward to the series launch on 27 February to announce some new initiatives.
“We will see the opportunity in a couple of areas for riders to pick up some extra prize money, new partnerships in digital media will unveiled, and additions such as those.
“This year our focus is to reach a much bigger audience and we have some great stuff to announce in the coming weeks.”
The 10-round series will officially commence at Raymond Terrace in New South Wales on Sunday, 14 April.
