Davi Millsaps put together a dominant performance at San Diego’s round six of the Monster Energy Supercross series, taking a wire to wire 450SX victory, his second of the season.
After clinching the season opening Anaheim 1 win, Millsaps put together a string of consistent finishes to maintain a strong points lead.
Millsaps rates his San Diego win as his best of the season, never before leading a race from start to finish without being passed at any point – although he did receive a large amount of pressure from TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed early in the race.
“I’m doing the best I can. If it’s me winning, or me second or third, as long as I’m doing the best I can, I’m happy with it,” said Millsaps. “I’m definitely pumped for the whole team, myself and everyone behind me. Just for everyone, it was a pretty cool night.
“I think this win is a little cooler than the one at A1 as I’ve never gotten the holeshot and led all 20 laps of a main event before.
“For me, it was really special that I led the whole race without getting passed. You can’t take anything away from the Anaheim 1 victory though – everyone wants to come in and win that one, the season opener is a special one.”
Millsaps credits his recent succes to his team’s hard work and dedication, along with his improved preparation and equipment in 2013.
“The difference this year has been the preparation,” he added. “I’m on a bike I love, that I’m comfortable with, a team that’s behind me and also willing to give me anything I need and work with me. All of that is for sure.”
Millsaps now leads the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross 450SX points chase by 19 points over Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, while Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto sits in third place.
