As the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championships wrapped up at Newcastle’s season finale, CDR Yamaha’s Craig Dack reflected on their 20th anniversary season of professional motocross and supercross competition.
Highlighting the 2012 season was Josh Coppins’ Monster Energy MX Nationals MX1 championship win, which marked the fifth-straight premier class title for Dack and his CDR Yamaha squad.
Adding to their already successful season, new recruit Dan McCoy battled for the supercross title with former CDR Yamaha rider Jay Marmont. Giving it his all, McCoy finished up the season with a second overall SX-Open class placing.
“We finished 1-5 at the MX Nationals and 2-5 here at the ASX, so it has been another successful year at CDR Yamaha,” said Dack. “Daniel has done a great job for CDR since coming on board and I’m very pleased with his riding throughout the championship.
“Lawson [Bopping] had some moments of brilliance but needs to improve his track position early in the race before he can challenge for a championship. There is no doubting he has the speed and talent to do it.”
Dack thanked his staff, sponsors and partners for their tireless efforts and looks to go even bigger and better in 2013.
“I wish to thank our loyal and tireless staff at CDR for their efforts in 2012 and also our sponsors and partners that has made our 20th anniversary so special,” he added. “IEG for their efforts in supercross hope we can all return in 2013 bigger and better.”
Though unofficial at this point, a team consisting of Bopping and Billy Mackenzie is expected for the 2013 outdoor season before McCoy is potentially drafted back in for SX once again. Watch this space.
