CDR Yamaha’s Dan McCoy is satisfied with his improved results throughout the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championships after earning himself a solid second overall finish in the SX-Open class standings.

McCoy, a late edition to the defending champion CDR Yamaha team, familiarised himself with the bike and quickly proved he was a serious contender for the premier class title.

The New South Wales native gave his all, battling with arch-rival Jay Marmont during Newcastle’s final main event of the year, keeping the fans on their toes.

“I gave it all I had,” McCoy reflected. “I wanted to race all the rounds to the best of my ability and improve on my result from last year and I’m happy that I achieved that.

“Last year, Jay was in a bit of a league of his own, this year, I was certainly a lot closer and was able to race him and battle at every round, so I feel I have improved and the hard work over the past few months paid off.

“Congratulations to Jay and also Chad [Reed], both are awesome riders and it’s a good achievement to have my name in amongst theirs in this championship.”

McCoy thanks the CDR Yamaha team for giving him the opportunity to ride for such a professional outfit on factory equipped bikes.

“I also want to thank IEG for their role in supercross this year, the championship has been a success and also the CDR Yamaha for the opportunity to race for a professional team with great bikes,” he added.

McCoy is yet to secure a deal for the 2013 season, tipped to contest a number of rounds in the US supercross series this January.
