CDR Yamaha’s Dan McCoy compared the tight confinements of Saturday’s second round of the Terex Australian Supercross Championships at Phillip Island to the indoors of the past, capitalising on his Supercross Masters experience.

McCoy, a supercross veteran, used his experience on the smaller indoor circuits from the past to assure good track position on the tight and technical circuit. He finished third behind Chad Reed and Jay Marmont, confessing that starts were the key to his afternoon.

“The track today was tight and it felt like we were racing an indoor event like we used to 10 years ago,” said McCoy. “Good starts were vital as was protecting the inside in corners.

“I was able to get through the opening lap chaos without too much trouble and keep it pretty clean for the rest of the race,” he added. “I could see both Jay and Chad [Reed] ahead of me but could never really get onto the back of them.

“Another podium is good and I’m really enjoying my time at CDR Yamaha. We still have two rounds to go and it would nice to continue my podium run at the final two events.”

McCoy remains second in the SX-Open title chase following two rounds, five points in arrears of opening round winner Marmont.
