CDR Yamaha’s Dan McCoy will head into Phillip Island’s round two of the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championships with the benefit of the world famous grand prix circuit being a familiar venue for him.
McCoy spent a number of seasons around a decade ago hoping to break into road racing, competing at Phillip Island aboard a variety of road race machines before turning his attention back to motocross.
Currently sitting second overall in the premier SX-Open class behind Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jay Marmont, McCoy says he feels great to be riding as well as he knows he can.
“It’s a great feeling to be back with the team and really riding as well as I know I can,” said McCoy. “My preparation for supercross was awesome, I did as many laps as I ever have and it meant I was really comfortable come Dubbo.”
McCoy is familiar with the Phillip Island venue after competing in road racing events years ago, and believes it will be a great event in front of such a large crowd.
“I actually did some road racing back there in the early 2000s so I’m pretty familiar with the track,” he added. “It’s going to be a great place to hold a supercross and really show what we can do in front of a big crowd.”
