Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jay Marmont kicked off his 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championships campaign by cementing himself as a title favourite with a confidence-inspiring main event victory in the Pro Open class.

His Dubbo season-opening win comes as a refreshing change after experiencing a sub-par 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals series, where Marmont was unable to climb onto the overall podium and took home just one moto win at the Wanneroo round.

Marmont, the defending 2011 Australian Supercross Champion, feels great about holding the series lead at the beginning of such a short series, and plans to keep his down and work towards the next round.

“I’m happy for myself and the team and all of those who support me,” said Marmont. “It’s been a hard year for me, that’s no secret so this is definitely a good way to start the series.

“I’ve never led a series from the beginning so I’m very happy. My preparation for this series was perfect and I feel better on the KX450F every time I ride it. I’ll head home now and continue training with my wife Abby and start working for the next round.”

Monster Energy Kawasaki team manger, Troy Carroll, feels good to start the season off with a great result after such a tough motocross season.

“This is a great start to the series for the whole team and it feels good to repay our sponsors and supporters with a win after a challenging MX season,” Carroll said.

“Monster Energy Kawasaki has prepared really well for this series and it’s showing in the riders results. We will now look to carry this momentum with us to the second round at Phillip Island.”
