The finals action continued at the 2012 Honda Australian Junior Motocross Championship (AJMX) in Coolum today, with riders getting down to business for the penultimate day of competition.
With just one day remaining to decide the sixteen coveted Junior Australian titles, riders stepped up the pace as they went after crucial championship points.
The 100-150cc 15 years class were first to hit the Coolum Pines Motocross Track this morning for their third finals event of the week. With hot favourite Joel Dinsdale out of action with a broken wrist, New South Wales charger Aaron Tanti (KTM/SS Racing) came through to collect the win ahead of Queensland duo Dylan Wilson (Brisbane KTM) and Richard Evans (KTM Australia).
Evans cranked it up another notch when the class returned to the track for the fourth final in the afternoon, winning the fast-paced moto by less than a second. New South Wales rider Joel Wightman (Yamaha Junior Racing Team) rode to second place, with Tanti coming to rest in third.
Tanti continued his stellar form when he took on the second 200-250cc 15 years final, locking in victory over Queensland’s Jesse Madden (KTM) and South Australia’s Izak Maule (Yamaha Junior Racing Team).
The 200-250cc 13-U15 moto honours went to Queenslander Jesse Dobson (Kawasaki), who was followed in closely by fellow Sunshine State resident Blake Colleton (Kawasaki) and Victorian Wayde Carter (KTM).
Queenslander Kaleb Barham (Honda) scored top honours in the fourth 150cc 12-U14 moto, coming home 18 seconds faster than New South Wales riders Jimmy Griffin (Honda) and Dylan Dukes (Honda/SS Racing).
In the fourth 100-150cc 9-U12 final, victory went home with Western Australian rider Regan Duffy (Honda), who topped the field in front of Victorian Morgan Fogarty (Honda) and Queenslander Mason Rowe (Honda).
Victoria’s Wayne Stewart (Honda) cleaned up in the fourth 100-150cc 14-U16 final, crossing the line in front of NSW rider Jye Smith (Honda) and Queensland pilot Samuel Rider (Honda).
Queensland’s Wilson Todd (Yamaha Junior Racing) continued to dominate the 85cc 12-U14 class, taking the win for the second day in a row and consolidating his hold on the title. In a repeat of yesterday’s moto result, Queensland chargers Hunter Lawrence (KTM) and Mitchell Evans (GMR Motorex KTM) rode to second and third.
Todd also claimed victory in the second 100-150cc 13-U15 final, heading the field in front of fellow Queensland rival Caleb Ward (KTM) and New South Wales force Dylan Heaton (KTM).
Heaton went on to win the fourth 85cc 14-U16 final moto, defeating New South Wales fliers Brock McLeary (KTM) and Elias Dukes (KTM).
Western Australian livewire Caleb Grothues continued his charge on the 85cc 9-U12 class, taking out the second final moto over Victorian rival Callum Norton (KTM) and New South Welshman Riley Dukes (KTM/SS Racing).
Grothues kept up his pace to also claim a second victory in the fourth 65cc 11-U13 years final, streaking past the post ahead of Queensland’s Blake Cobbin (KTM) and the Northern Territory’s Liam Walsh (KTM).
The second 65cc 9-U11 final was secured by young Queensland dynamo Bailey Malkiewicz, who won the race over New South Wales competitors Rhys Budd (KTM) and Tyler Darby (KTM).
Local Sunshine Coast rider Jett Lawrence once again cleaned up the 65cc 7-U9 moto, passing the chequered flag before nearest rivals Alex Larwood (KTM) of South Australia and Regan Turner (KTM) of New Zealand.
Victorian rider Tyran Tomich squeezed to victory in the fourth 50cc Auto final with a tight 0.272 second buffer, followed home by Western Australian rider Jasyn Roney (Cobra) and New South Wales rider Brock Ninness (KTM).
The fourth 85cc Female 12-U16 final was claimed by New South Wales flier Alisha Barrett (KTM) with a 0.353 second winning margin. Queensland’s Cheyenne Taylor (KTM) and South Australia’s Amy Bartsch (Suzuki) came home in second and third.
Barrett continued her cracking pace to pick up third in the 150cc/200-250cc Female class behind Victorian rocket Emma Milesevic (Yamaha) and NSW rider Jozee Adamson (KTM).
