DPH Motorsport Honda confirms Boyd's Pro Open switch

DPH Motorsport's have officially confirmed that Cheyne Boyd will be switching back to the premier class for the upcoming Australian Supercross Championships, after spending the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals series aboard the smaller 250.

Cheyne Boyd will return to the premier class when the ASX series begins.

DPH Motorsport’s have officially confirmed that Cheyne Boyd will be switching back to the premier class for the upcoming Australian Supercross Championships, after spending the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals series aboard the smaller 250.

Boyd, a veteran of the sport, has already spent years in the premier class racing against the best of the best. This experience will make the move a smooth transition.

The Victorian says he feels comfortable on the CRF450 and looks forward to getting out there on a supercross track with the Pro Open class.

“I’m really happy to be back on the CRF450, it really feels like where I belong on a bike,” said Boyd. “Unfortunately, my MX Nationals campaign in the MX2 class didn’t work out how we had planned it to but I don’t regret what we did with trying that class out and I’m ready to get back on a 450 and race in the MX1 class for supercross.”

The move back to the larger sized motorcycle has been a major confidence booster for Boyd and he is looking forward to being a championship contender on the 450.

“Practice for Supercross has been going great, I feel like I’m riding the bike really fast and I just can’t wait for round one,” he added. “I feel like I can be one of the many guys out there that can win this Championship.

“I have to really thank my Team Owner, Dale Hocking and my mechanic Brad McAlpine for supporting me with the decision to move back to a 450 and I would like to thank everyone at Honda, Shift, Alpinestars, Oakley & Maxima for also supporting me on going back to the MX1 class, even though I was hired this year as a MX2 rider.”

Boyd will make his return to racing in the premier class on 13 October at Dubbo in New South Wales, marking the season opener of the all-new ASX series.
